SolarEdge has a lot of videos and support information to spell out the positives of their system. For the most part I agree with their claims except for their very biased comparison to micro-inverters. So I would give them high marks. However, I see two big issues with their solution. First, they stack the solar panels like batteries, with each panel adding to the voltage, with the final voltage being 350+VDC. Unlike AC, when DC gets a hold of you it does not let go and for this reason, the system is dangerous. They have some integrated mechanisms that look to avoid arcing, but if someone touches an exposed wire or there is an undetected ground fault, it could be grim. As serious as this seems, I think I could live with this one and treat it with the respect that high voltage DC deserves. The second issue is that the only way to do panel level monitoring is via their SolarEdge Servers. This means that your array must be connected to the internet. Obviously if you have no internet or it not accessible, this is big problem. Also, with all the solar startups that are here today and gone tomorrow, there is a real possibility that the solaredge server will not always be there.
They offer a poor excuse for a fix in that they allow a 3rd party datalogger to be connect to the string inverters. But this only gives you string inverter data and not panel level data.
