Cox Racing Group Radiator Guard 113-11054 Review

I bought this radiator guard AFTER I experienced a radiator puncture during an extended ride. If you do most of your sport bike riding on the street, you should consider installing a radiator guard of some kind. I had been warned by another rider about a month prior to my incident, and I regret not putting the guard at the top of my list of bike mods. My radiator was struck by a rock, just before we stopped for gas at the turn-around point of our ride. I was in a very rural area, on Easter Sunday, with no auto parts store around. Since the rock strike occurred just before we stopped, there was very little leakage and no coolant smell. It was dumb luck that I caught the leak before we took off again. Engine coolant spraying the rear tire would've almost certainly caused a low-side accident in the first corner we entered. It took some real redneck ingenuity to get the bike to a truck stop that sold J-B Weld. Not to mention, I needed additional tools to get the right side fairing off so I could refill the radiator through the cap opening. If there hadn't been a generous truck driver taking a break when I pulled up, I might have been begging for a ride home. I had to purchase a replacement radiator online $300 for a quality used one... $700 for a brand new assembly, plus a lot of my personal time spent disassembling the bike and doing a full coolant flush. Save yourself a lot of time and money and get a radiator guard.
