Additional material is left on cap mating surface to machine to 3.063.You must install and accurately measure with an inside micrometer to determine amount to remove.Cap would have to go to a machine shop to be cut. I turned two round steel pieces that pressed into the counterbored holes in cap then surface ground these parallel to cap surface.Setting dial to zero on final pass.I then took the cap to Bridgeport and flycut .040" off cap surface.I then put the cap back on surface grinder and ground to a dial setting of .048".I also adjusted the original cap on right side to 3.062 using the same method. Many of these rearends are originally bored too big at the factory.Mine was 3.066. After seeing that my carrier races had spun in housing a little I quickly bought this.
