Curt 18115 Roof Mounted Cargo Rack Review

I was torn between the Yakima load warrior or the Curt cargo rack. The Yakima was twice the price of the Curt. Having already spent good money on the Yakima base rack I decided to give the Curt cargo rack a shot. It was delivered to my house in its original packaging. It arrived in great shape unlike other stuff that I have received in the past. It was a pretty big box and it was very light. I thought it was going to be heavy but wasn't. I also ordered the extension and the Curt netting. It was pretty easy to set everything up.

The extension snapped to the cargo rack easily and all the holes lined up well. The cargo rack with the extension was still light and easy to carry by one person. It took me about 30 minutes to put this together and place it on my Honda Fit. The mounting brackets are little confusing at first. I followed the picture on the directions but it was wrong. I ended up playing with it for 10 minutes and finally figured it out.

The build quality of the rack is excellent and it is comparable to the Yakima load warrior. You pretty much pay for the name. I love Yakima but I am glad I purchased the Curt cargo rack. It was way more affordable and it looks just as good as the Yakima. I always have people come up to me or at a red light asking me about the cargo basket. I thought the rack was going to be to big but it fit perfect for my little car.

I was anxious to try the rack with gear on. Finally I was able to take a camping trip with the family. Before the rack I had 5 passengers. 4 adults and 1 toddler. The trunk of my car was filled to capacity and every nook and cranny was stuffed with gear. The ride to our camping destination usually wasn't comfortable. With the rack we can all ride comfortably and safely since I can see through my rear view mirror now. As far as wind noise with an empty cargo rack it is hardly noticeable when driving in the streets. On the highways it is a little noticeable when the speeds are higher than 75. The great part is when the cargo rack is full there is no wind noise. Not sure how but I wasn't able to hear any howling or whistling.

Overall this is a great product from Curt. I had never purchased anything from this company but I am glad I did. My next purchase is a hitch for my car since it doesn't have one. Then a bike rack to add to the load.
